Obituary Via Walker Funeral Home

Missionary Mother Ella Marie Johnson was born in Canton, Ohio on October 9, 1931, the fourth child of Albert and Inez Stover. As a child, Ella loved to read and always said that books were her friends. Education was important to her, and she graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1949.
After graduation, she worked several different jobs.  While working as a domestic worker, she caught the eye of a handsome young soldier named Harry Lee Johnson, Jr. The two married and together raised five wonderful children: Linda, Annette, Johnathan, Ronald and Candace. Despite coming from humble means, Ella worked tirelessly to provide for her family. She always encouraged their dreams and never denied them anything. She also stressed the importance of education, and made sure that all of her children went to college.
Although raised in a Methodist church, Ella began attending Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ. Under the tutelage of Elder Lee Nucklos, she experienced God in a new way. She went from knowing about God to truly having a relationship with Him. She loved studying and teaching God’s word. She truly enjoyed teaching Sunday School and served as the district Sunday School Superintendent in Canton, Ohio. She also worked with the Young People’s Willing Workers, as the church secretary, a choir member (baritone section!), and a radio announcer. Mother Johnson loved people and could be found visiting the sick and shut-in, working with the nursing home and food pantry ministries, serving on the hospitality team, writing cards, baking, and interceding for everyone that she met. She led a life of love, service, and prayer.
She was a mother to many of her nieces and nephews, and truly loved her family and friends. She spent her life nurturing and encouraging everyone she met. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Inez Stover; husband, Harry L. Johnson, Jr.; her siblings, Bertha (Dan) Mumford, Albert Stover, Eli Stover, Norma (Gene) Brydie; daughter, Linda Lightfoot; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She is survived by her children, Annette (Delbert) Young, Jonathan (Mona) Johnson, Ronald (Viola) Johnson, and Candace (Jeffrey) Bowling; grandchildren Chaundre Allen, Amorah (Antwan) Lewis, Jonathan Johnson, Jr., Jamere Johnson, Jerusha (Jessica) Armstrong, Anecia Johnson, Julien Johnson, Amber Bowling, and Lance Johnson; great-grandchildren Craig Allen, Chantel Allen, Corrie Allen, Neveah Johnson, Zacarias Lewis, Jonathan Johnson III, Zoë Lewis, and Amelia Johnson.

Visitation is from 9:00 am until 10:00 am, on  Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Good News Church of God in Christ, 1063 W. North Bend Road, Cincinnati  (45224).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
