Stephen “Steve” D. Hoskins
Stephen “Steve” Dale Hoskins was born August 26, 1952 in Springfield, IL to Robert Dale Hoskins and Norma Jean Childers Hoskins. He was their second-born child.
Steve passed away at the age of 69 on July 22, 2022 in Cincinnati, OH.
Steve met the love of his life, Stella Valaira Daniel at Lee College (now Lee University) in Cleveland, TN during the summer of 1978. Steve was going through summer school and Valaira was touring the campus with her parents when they met in the cafeteria. Valaira was immediately attracted to his down-to-earth, friendly personality and their friendship developed from there. On April 29, 1979 they were married in Cleveland, TN. Two years later they started their family and had Stephanie and Amber. Steve was an ordained minister with the Church of God and served in various roles including school teacher, youth pastor, evangelist and pastor. His love was for the Lord, his family, his guitar music, teaching and preaching.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his younger brother Jules “Vick” DelValley.
He is survived by wife Valaira, daughter Stephanie (Brock) Stamps of Austin, TX, daughter Amber Hoskins of Cincinnati, OH and three grandchildren, Owen, Luke and Ada Stamps of Austin, TX; sister Peggy (Herb) Worker of Missouri, brother Ronald Hoskins of Longmont, CO; sister Sandy Soenksen of Springfield, IL; brother Layne (Jill) DelValley of Monticello, IL; Cheryl (Jaime) Perez of Gurnee, IL; sister Donna (Donald-deceased) Smith of Springfield, IL.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 28th at Springdale Nazarene Church (11177 Springfield Pike Cincinnati, OH 45246) from 10:00am to 11:00am. A funeral service for Steve will begin at 11:00am, and he will be laid to rest at Arlington Memorial Gardens (2145 Compton Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45231) following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (specify AML) or blood donations to the Hoxworth Blood Center in Steve’s name.
