BASIL, Reverend Nelson Fielder, 92, of Lebanon and formerly of Bedford, OH passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018. Born March 25, 1926 in Annapolis, MD to Bernard and Nellie (nee: Bradley) Basil, he was a US Army Air Corp member serving in WWII. A graduate of the Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Nelson served on the Civil Service Commission and was active with the Cleveland Baptist Association and the Bedford Rotary. He was the camp director for many years at Camp Koinonia. He helped form the Meals on Wheels program in Bedford as well as the SE Clergy Council. He retired in 1991 from American Baptist Churches, USA after more than 40 years as a minister. After retiring, he was named Pastor Emeritus at the First Baptist of Bedford Church. Upon moving to Lebanon, Nelson became active at the Countryside YMCA.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jane Adele Basil one brother, Bernard Basil, JR, and two sisters, Irene and Edith. Survivors include his two sons, Dr. Robert N. (Cheryl) Basil of Middletown, OH and Esq. Mark A. (Nancy) Basil of Cincinnati, OH, one sister, Beverly Riddle of New Holland, PA, three grandsons, Christopher, Nicholas and William Basil and two great grandchildren, Miriam and Owen Basil.

Visitation was held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 2-3 pm, with funeral services immediately following, all at the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, donation are requested to either the American Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to Camp Koinonia 6810 Cork Cold Springs Rd, Geneva OH 44041.    

Chapel Service will be Saturday June 1, 2019 at 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with burial following
