Earl Wayne Kates, born August 13th, 1952, at Berea Hospital in Madison County, Kentucky to Earl Kates and Mary (Abrams) Kates. At an early age, his family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where he spent most of his life. There he met and married Flora Mae (Mullins) Kates on August 25th, 1973. He was blessed with two wonderful children: Hershel DeWayne and Karen Lynn. Earl Wayne and Flora were married for 47 years. They were blessed with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Earl Wayne was a hardworking man who came down with bad health at an early age. But he was serving a merciful God who spared his life when the doctors couldn’t. Earl Wayne was a miracle, and he never forgot what the Lord had done for him. He tried to put God first in his life. He loved his family and many friends. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He’ll be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife Flora Mae; his devoted children and their spouses: son Hershel DeWayne & wife Karen Sue Kates and daughter Karen Lynn & husband Ian Michael Butler; his adoring grandchildren Andrew DeWayne, Melissa Jewel, Kayla Marie, Autumn Raeann, Adian Wayne, & Hershel DeWayne Kates, Jr; great-grandchildren Cassidy & Carter; his mother; and his two brothers & three sisters.

He is preceded in death by his father and his sister.

A public visitation will be held for Earl Wayne at Northside Pentecostal Church of God (4220 Leeper St, Cincinnati, OH 45223) on Friday, February 11th, 2022 at 10:30AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:30AM. Following the funeral, family and friends will process to Arlington Memorial Gardens (2145 Compton Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45231) for Earl Wayne’s committal service at 1:00pm in the Garden of Friendship.

After the committal, family and friends are welcome to gather back at Northside Pentecostal Church of God for food and fellowship in honor of Earl Wayne.
