Obituary Via Neidhard Young Funeral Home

Clara F. Stavermann (nee Catanzaro)

Beloved wife of the late Ralph Stavermann, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. Clara passed peacefully in her home on July 15th. Preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Addie Catanzaro, sisters Dorothy (Wm) Oakley, Ella (Jim) Benefiel, and Brother Joe (Lee) Catanzaro. Cherished by her children Connie (Wm.) Sterwerf, Ralph (Elizabeth Novak) Stavermann, and Karen Stavermann. Grandmother to Tony Sterwerf, Kathy Berthold (Dave), Tim (Ben) Sterwerf, Carly Stavermann, Dak (Ashley) Stavermann, Kristen Caudill, Shelley Caudill, and Lindsey Latham. Great Grandmother to Amanda (Chris) Telinda, Karl (Amber) Berthold, Shelby (Luke) Bulach, Emma (Jasper) Parker, Sydney Sterwerf, Aiden Kearney, Sebastian Fiorino, Camila Stavermann, & Orion Latham. Great Great Grandmother to Drake Telinda, Jackson & Ellis Bulach. Special Mom to Sandi Stavermann and Scott Dick. Many nieces and nephews.

Clara was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and lived above a store front in Cold Water Flats on Rittenhouse Street which is now in the Union Terminal Area near downtown Cincinnati. She worked at Atkins Grocery Store in Mt. Healthy before she married Ralph and scooped ice cream for 5 cents a scoop. She would always say they were a “BIG” scoop and “hard as a rock”! Clara loved to bake and decorate cakes for all occasions, Birthdays, Graduations, First Communions, Weddings, and Baby & Wedding showers. She would draw any design requested, from a Merry Go Round, Barbie Doll, Ford Emblem, Bowling Alley, Light House, Tweety Bird, Album Covers, Horse Ranch, Film Director Tape with “Take One” Video and even Snoopy sitting on the roof of this house with a bowl of French Fries! Each family member got to choose the flavor and design and she would take it from there. She loved to dance and her feet could not sit still when Big Band music was playing. She was part of a Ladies Bowling League with her daughter Connie for many years at Sankers’ in Mt. Healthy. A purely coincidental craving for a late-night snack and running into their in-laws, Glenn & Shirley, at the same time began a 30+ year weekly Friday night outing at 11:00 pm beginning at Frisch’s, then Denny’s and Steak n Shake. If any grandkids spent the night on a Friday – they got to go too! She loved to Roller Skate and help her daughter Karen with her outside skating business Free Wheelin’ at Coney Island for many years even skating in the 1980 St. Patrick’s Day Parade thru downtown Cincinnati holding the advertisement sign for Free Wheelin’! Her Grandkids all loved to tell others that “their Grandma could Roller Skate”!! She and Grandpa loved to travel and would drive to Colorado every summer for years to visit their son Ralph. She also would meet her cousins every month for lunch at LaRosas’ on Boudinot Avenue for many years. Before any occasion, she would always have her hair up in curlers. She never had a trash can in her kitchen and you would never find dust in her home! You didn’t wanted to be on her “sh…t list” and when watching her Grandkids, she would protect them being “put in the closet and Grandpa farting thru the keyhole”! Ha Ha Ha!!

We were blessed to have her in our lives these 97 years and she will always have a very special place in all our hearts.

“Those that we hold in our arms for a little while we hold in our hearts forever. “

Visitation will be held at Corpus Christi Church, 2014 Springdale Rd. on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 10 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM,
