Anna Grace Popham

Mrs. Anna Grace Popham, age 89, passed away on December 5, 2020 at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant nursing home.

Grace was born in Massapequa, NY to Francis and Sarah Schoenwandt. She lived there for years before meeting the love of her life, Edward Eugene Popham. They were married on February 13, 1954 at Mitchell Air Force Base in New York. The two ultimately settled in Cincinnati, OH and went on to have two children together. Grace was a devoted homemaker who put her loved ones first no matter what. She was the glue that kept the family strong while her husband was on the road for his job. She was by his side up until the end of his life. He preceded her in death in 2006.

Grace was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Raymond and Francis “Frank” Schoenwandt, and by her stepmother Helen Schoenwandt.

Grace is survived by her children, Dennis (Peggy) Popham and Sherry (Ken) Schmidt; her grandchildren April (Robyn) Popham, Scott Popham, Jessica (Alex) Meece, Brandon (Jessica) Schmidt; her great-grandchildren, Asher and Bear; her stepsister, Laurel Hofmann; her sister-in-law, Nina Schoenwandt; her first cousin she loved like a brother, Millard “Sonny Boy” Daniel; her beloved dog, Abby, and many extended relatives and friends.

Grace was a founding and longtime member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. A loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister, daughter, cousin, and friend, Grace was a true light in the world. She never knew a stranger, and there was always a seat at her table. Her huge heart and generosity knew no bounds, and her memory will forever live on in the heart of her loved ones.

Our hearts are broken because you have left us, but we rejoice that you are pain-free and are having a happy reunion with your loved ones in heaven. We are forever grateful for your tender love and care of me (“Sonny Boy”) whom you raised from age 10 months to 10 years after the death of my mom.
After a 70 year search, you found me , your “Sonny Boy”, and we had a happy reunion in 2017. We will “see you later” dear Gracie. Love you forever, Your Sonny Boy and wife Mary
